The Pirate Pick for Monday May the 17th was…
The Beginning of COUNTDOWN TO SASQUATCH!!
omigawd,omigawd,omigawd,omigawd Sasquatch!! It’s only 11 sleeps away!! And considering i’m gonna be OUT like a flickering outdoor lantern at a spooky haunted cabin recovering from SCARY WISDOM TOOTH SURGERY, it’s practically tomorrow for me! So stoked!
As with last year, the Late Nite Pirate Pick will be devoted in the weeks leading up to the Sasquatch Festival to lesser-knowns, up-and-comers, and weirdo-festival-oddities which round out the line-up for big music festivals like Sasquatch, but also… that make them fun and interesting adventures!
We’ll start out the Countdown with the first act who was announced this year, Pavement! They don’t get played on the radio anymore, but i think if you’re a LITTLE bit older than i am (25) you remember Pavement getting played a whole bunch, and being a big deal. Lots of people around my age (25) that i talk to are like “who the eff are Pavement and why the eff are they headlining a festival like Sasquatch?!”
Their wikipedia says it quite nicely;
“Although they experienced only moderate commercial success, they achieved a significant cult following and were one of the most popular and influential lo-fi rock bands of the 1990s”
For the record, of the 90′s sounds, i enjoy “lo-fi” more than “grunge”. Grunge was great for it’s time, but where lo-fi begat “indie rock”, grunge spawned the un-holy evil that is POST GRUNGE. The worst.
But i prattle on.
